Featured Artist: Michael Wein

Paint The Town Red
By Kalon McMahon

May 19th 2008 marked the birth of Houston's newest artist. Born and raised in the Bayou city, 26-year-old Michael Wein has returned to his roots to showcase his eclectic post abstract style on the walls of one of Houston's most iconic establishments, La Colombe D’Or Hotel and Zimms Martini and Wine bar.

A juxtaposition of styles to say the least, tradition and innovation will collide to play host to the brainchild of Wein, which he has appropriately dubbed The Mind of Mr. Wein. A self taught artist who started painting on the floor of his fathers New York City loft, Michael is a minority in the mainstream art realm and represents the 1% of "real" artists not persuaded or compromised by any formal art education.

When asked to describe his art, Michael hesitates and smirks, almost as if he is left speechless by his own creations… "I want my art to be provocative… I want to provoke conversation and thought. Art should inspire people other than the artist. I want my audience to abandon their cliché notions of what art is SUPPOSED to be and allow their minds to wander."

You are invited to experience the mood created by The Mind of Mr. Wein during your visit to Zimms.
